KIRSTEN BARRY

Baroque Oboe

Kirsten was born and raised in Canberra. Whilst her early training was at the Canberra School of Music, she completed her degree in modern oboe in Perth at the WA Conservatorium of Music. For many years Kirsten has been one of Australia’s leading specialists in period wind instruments, primarily as an oboist but also with a keen interest in period appropriate doubling as well as earlier repertoires. As such, she also plays recorders, flute, shawms and curtal.

Kirsten has performed with a wide variety of groups throughout Australia for many years. She is a core member of the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra and has recently marked 20 years with the organisation. She has also played with Pinchgut Opera, Ironwood Ensemble, Adelaide Baroque, Van Diemen’s Band and has a long association with the Bach Cantatas Programme at St John’s Lutheran Church Southgate in Melbourne.
