AARON REICHELT

Leader of the Oboes

Aaron Reichelt is an Australian oboist whose career spans performance on modern and historical oboes, orchestral and chamber music, opera, theatre and recording. He has been principal oboist with the Canberra Bach Ensemble since 2016, where Bach’s writing for voice and obbligato oboe has become a particularly important part of his musical life.

His Australian career has included performances with Sydney Philharmonia Choirs and Orchestra, Bach Akademie Australia, Canberra Symphony Orchestra, the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Victorian Opera, Melbourne Opera and the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Society. Alongside his orchestral work, Aaron has maintained an extensive chamber and period-instrument career.

Aaron’s international work has included specialist historical-performance projects in Boston and New York, including with Symphonie des Dragons, followed by four years in Vienna working across orchestral, theatre, historical-performance and studio settings, including with the Synchron Stage Orchestra and Vereinigte Bühnen Wien.

Equally at home on modern and historical oboes, Aaron is drawn to the different colours, characters and expressive possibilities of the instrument. His work ranges from large-scale orchestral and choral repertoire to chamber music and solo performance, with a particular affinity for music in which the oboe takes on a vocal or obbligato role.

Critics have consistently responded to the clarity, precision, colour and depth of his playing, as well as its expressive and vocal qualities.
